I just got back from an amazing 4 days in Sequoia/Kings Canyon National Parks, celebrating my birthday! As I stood in the mist of Roaring River Falls, I engaged in a 5 senses mindfulness activity that I’d like to share with you.
As you watch this video, notice what your eyes observe. What do you see? What do your ears notice? What sounds do you hear? Are there layers to the sounds? Rhythms? Patterns? Using your imagination, can you imagine what the waterfall smells like? What are the fragrances of nature that present themselves? Using your imagination, can you imagine the damp gentle mist on your skin? What else might you notice on your skin? What is the taste of nature as you stand or sit, in your mind’s eye, in the presence of these powerful falls?
Know that you can spend as much time as you like savoring, taking in with your 5 senses, the beauty and power of nature in your imagination. You can also do this in real time, in your own life. Perhaps you too will enjoy doing some 5 senses mindfulness activities outdoors — on nature walks, at the beach, or watching a sunset from your porch.
